Let the history books show that on Saturday, October 19th, 2019 the first public cyclocross event happened in the Almaguin Highlands with (you guessed it) Cyclocross Almaguin!  We are very excited to have had the support of the Perry Township Recreation and Culture Committee to use the Almaguin Highlands Information Centre to create a fun course for kids and adults who were new and experienced CX riders.

The day featured open course time for kids and families and from there the schedule stayed flexible as the kids didn’t want to get off the course!  Eventually, the big kids had a chance to clear the course and take on the off camber climbs, sweeping corners, run-up and barriers.

Post-ride snack was provided by Spicoli’s Pizza in Emsdale. A big thank you to Spicoli’s, who also support the Sprucedale Community Bike Ride event in June.

This was a day of firsts and we are excited about the potential that the Almaguin and Parry Sound region has for cyclocross as a pathway to community and youth sport development and fostering independence in transportation options for youth.

On Sunday the 20th, another CX event was held at Georgian Nordic, near Parry Sound.
